When you start learning a new language you always start with loads of enthusiasm but after a while some people give up because of variety of reasons.

A job, busy schedule or financial problems are some of the main reasons that usually prevent people from focusing on a new language.

However, learning a new language doesn’t have to be difficult or time consuming, it can be fun and totally flexible to work around your lifestyle.

1. Music, books and movies

Listening to music, reading books and watching movies or TV series is a good way to improve your listening skills. Many programmes on Netflix, Prime and similar networks have subtitles. If you love music, finding the lyrics of your favourite song can provide you with new vocabulary in an easy and entertaining way.

Signing up for a language course in a language school is one of the best and most popular options to improve your language skills. There are thousands of language schools around the world to study which offer a perfect way to progress in your desired language, but there are also other ways to do so as well as attending a language school. With most people now having access to the internet 24/7 it has never been easier to improve your language skills online. There are now hundreds of language learning apps, whilst companies and schools also offer online language classes. This can be one of the easiest ways to study at a pace to suit you, and it doesn’t even require much effort, you can literally open your phone and start improving.

4. Websites

Whether it is for business, academic or social reasons the internet is a great resource and it can also be fun! Try your hand at interactive sites and try out interactive activities. Bookmark 3 of you top favourite sites and visit then regularly. So if you are into football for example find a sports site. Read blogs that interest you or try to write your own blog.

Use sites like the BBC iplayer, whilst the BBC have great learning resources as well the British Council. You can also use language dictionary sites such as Oxford and Cambridge, especially as they are free.

Remember when you use for example Google translate it may not always be accurate as some words really don’t translate. Double check with other sources such as dictionaries.

5. Living and working abroad

For those who really want to learn a language, linguistic immersion is probably the best option. Finding a temporary job gives you the opportunity to practice the new language in everyday situations. 6. Live abroad as an aupair

Apply for au pair jobs is fantastic option to live abroad at low cost and learn a new language. This is because you do not have to pay for accommodation as you will live and work with a local family. This gives you plenty of opportunities to know a different culture better, make friends, visit interesting places and even learn when living with a family.

7. Participate in an Erasmus or student exchange program

There is no better idea than going to study and live abroad. Moving to a foreign country is definitely an unforgettable experience and involves speaking the local language on a daily basis. Lots of companies and educational institutes offer short and long exchange programs.

8. Take a language course during a trip

Take advantage of your holidays and consider taking a course abroad. If you are too busy during the week to practice a new language in a language course, you can travel to another country and enroll in a language course there. You will definitely meet people from different places of the world and have fun participating in cultural activities that most language schools offer.

9. Take part in language exchange meet ups

If you know someone in your city who speaks the language you study and he is interested in learning your own, suggest that you do language exchange meet ups.
